The Evanston Police Department is introducing a new system to let citizens upload videos or other media relevant to an on-going investigation to a website accessible by the police.

The system is an expansion of the department’s Axon body worn camera program. Called “Axon Citizen” it will accept videos and other media captured or stored on cell phones, computers and other electronic devices.

Cmdr. Ryan Glew says that when officers or detectives learn that a victim or witness has captured a video or other media relevant to an investigation, they’ll be able to use an email or text message to invite the person to upload the material into the department’s Evidence.com account at no cost.
