The New York Times today has a story about the dining scene in Evanston, praising what it calls “world-class distileries and breweries” and new farm-to-table restaurants here.

The travel section story highlights five “downtown” spots familiar to local foodies, although natives might quibble that only two of them are actually downtown.

The five are Smylie Brothers Brewing Co. on Oak Avenue and Found Kitchen and Social House on Chicago Avenue, both downtown, and — outside the downtown core — Few Spirits distillery and Union Pizza on Chicago Avenue and Hewn Bakery on Dempster Street.
