25th year for ‘Fairy Tale Trail’

Each fall since 1990, The Woman’s Club of Evanston creates Fairy Tale Trail to provide a safe, non-frightening, fun Halloween experience for children of all ages and abilities.

This October marks the 25th annual fun-filled Halloween with well-known characters and some new surprises along the Fairy Tale Trail.

Mermaids, wizards, safari guides and princesses will welcome the children to the WCE clubhouse which will be transformed into a maze of eight rooms – each showcasing a different children’s story or theme.

Each fully accessible, fantasy-filled room will feature multi-sensory activities and costumed volunteers who will engage and enchant children with and without special needs.

Schools with programs for physically, cognitively, or economically challenged students who may not otherwise experience Halloween due to physical or financial limitations, will attend free of charge for a special weekday field trip. A nominal admission fee charged to the general public during weekend hours to fund all expenses to run and maintain the Trail, including bus scholarships. The Trail expects to host about 400 school children and more than 1,000 additional visitors.

The VIP Character Meet & Greet Experience will take place on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and will allow children to mix and mingle as a VIP with the fantastic residents of Fairy Tale Trail. They'll have exclusive access to our enchanting Cinderella, heroic Captain America, and the ever-cuddly Winnie the Pooh. The cost is $15 per child and $10 per adult. Children under 1 year are free. Registration is available online.

Fairy Tale Trail will also be open to the public on Friday, Oct. 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost per person is $5 and tickets can be purchased at the door.

Attendees can also buy light snacks and refreshments at the Trail’s Pumpkin Patch Café. Children are encouraged to join in the fun by coming in costume.

The Woman’s Club of Evanston is located at 1702 Chicago Ave. in Evanston. Metered street, lot and garage parking are located within walking distance of the club.
