The Main Dempster Mile together with Vinic Wine and the Wine Goddess will host a lively neighborhood sample & shop-for-charity event on October 13th from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm. Over 60 local businesses will pour tastings of domestic and international wine at this third annual event.
This year’s chosen 501 (c) 3 organization is Mudlark Theater Company, where young people are making real theater. Proceeds from ticket and raffle sales will be used to help underwrite the important programs at Mudlark.
According to Liz Feiertag, Mudlark’s Development Director, the theater company receives submissions of original creative writing pieces (short stories, fairy tales, poems, ramblings, rants, etc.) that have been written by local kids in the community. Mudlark Theater adapts these pieces for the stage and incorporates the show into its mainstage season. Liz states, “many of the Mudpie writers are participants in our collaborative after-school program with Y.O.U., and they would never have an opportunity to express themselves creatively if it weren't for this program–a program that is completely free to these children. The end result is a powerful production highlighting the amazing artistic abilities of Evanston children.”
Many great new area shops will join neighborhood favorites to offer wine tastings, appetizers, fabulous merchandise and the chance to walk and mingle with neighbors in the Main Dempster Mile community. Business participants include Stumble & Relish, See Jane Sparkle (in her new location!), Threads, Squeezebox Books and Music, Hewn Bakery, Union, The Pot Shop, The Collage Cafe, Sketchbook, Blind Faith Café, Hip Circle Studio, The School of Rock, Open Studio Project, La Principal, Evanston Stitchworks and many others.
“I’m so excited to be part of this business district! There are so many independent businesses and Evanston is truly a community where small businesses are supported and can thrive. This is a wonderful opportunity for the local businesses to come together and promote the growth of small, independent entrepreneurs,” says Lindy Stockton, owner of The Collage Cafe. “I’m especially excited that with the creation of the Main Dempster Mile business district, the Main Street businesses will be able to take part in this fun event. It’s a great opportunity to make a difference in our community.”
“We are looking forward to being a part of the 3rd Annual Evanston Charity Wine Walk. It’s such a fun opportunity to become acquainted with the unique and wonderful shops that are part of the Main Dempster Mile while sipping on an extensive collection of wines from across the globe,” says Diana Hamann of The Wine Goddess. “We will be serving a wide variety of wines chosen for their great quality and value,” added Sandeep Ghaey of Vinic Wine.
