Axelrod to speak at DPOE annual dinner

Former presidential advisor David Axelrod will be the guest speaker at the Democratic Party of Evanston's annual dinner on Sunday, Oct. 19.

The event, with food provided by several Evanston restaurants, starts at 5 p.m. at the Unitarian Church of Evanston, 1330 Ridge Ave.

Yellow Dog Award

Axelrod, an advisor to presidents Clinton and Obama, is now director of the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago, and will receive the party's Yellow Dog Award.

Others to be honored include political organizer and strategist Robert Creamer, who'll receive the Abner Mikva Award, and Bernice Weissbourd, the founder of Family Focus, who'll receive the Community Achievement Award

And DPOE Vice President Joanne Zolomij and board member Jane Neumann will receive the Ted L. Loda Volunteer Award.
