Learn how to preserve the bounty of the summer with a water bath canning demonstration and class at the Talking Farm.
Instructor Maret Thorpe will cover general principles, how and why canning works, food safety, kitchen safety while canning, equipment and supplies you need, foods you can process with the water bath method, and labeling, storage and shelf-life. She will demonstrate how to can tomatoes or pickles, and there will be a questions and answer session.
The class fee includes a resource sheet with reputable sites for safe canning information, and links to our favorite pickle recipes! We have a maximum capacity of 20 students, age 12 and older.
The class costs $25 for those who register by Aug. 20, $30 after that. Participants can register online.
