A musical biography of the amazing Queen Christina, one of Europe’s great eccentrics, from her childhood and reign in Sweden to her abdication and life in Rome. The Newberry Consort’s singers, violins, and continuo band of keyboards, theorbo, guitar, and lirone perform works by Lully, Carissimi, Corelli, Cesti, and other illustrious composers she knew—music written for her or heard by her. The program features Chicago-based author Sarah Paretsky in readings from Christina’s letters and other contemporary accounts.
