Time for a party! Preschoolers with their caregivers are invited to learn and dance at the Evanston Public Library to celebrate the Week of the Young Child. Marilyn Price, an internationally known puppeteer will entertain with her Wee Wonderful World of Puppets. Singing, nursery rhymes, the creation of a friendship wreath that celebrates diversity, and, of course, dancing, will be part of the lively program. The event is being put on with the “Little and Learning” group of Evanston 150. Andrea Densham, Executive Director of Childcare Network of Evanston will be present to answer questions about early childhood education.
According to Martha Meyer, of Evanston Public Library’s Children’s Services, “one of the best activities we can do as early learning advocates is to get more parents singing with their kids. Singing and rhyming work on phonological awareness, helping children hear the different parts of words. What better way to do than adding dance which works on gross motor skills at the same time.”
