Evanston’s ’Kits, ’Cats and Kids Block Party is Sept. 15

Evanston’s annual ’Kits, ’Cats and Kids Block Party will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15, from 4:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in downtown Evanston.

This year, the free event will move a block north and expand a block west to make room for more activities. The event will take place on Sherman Avenue, between Church and Clark Streets, and on Clark Street, between Sherman and Benson Avenues. The streets will be closed to traffic.

As in prior years, the block party will feature games, arts and crafts, family-friendly activities, live music, a performance from Beatles cover band Kaleidoscope Eyes, the Evanston Township High School and Northwestern University marching bands, and plenty of dining options, including a wide variety of food trucks.

The first 200 hot dogs will be free, thanks to sponsorship by First Bank & Trust.

Discounted football tickets will be sold at the Block Party to help fill Ryan Field stadium with a sea of purple at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, when the Northwestern Wildcats will play the Duke Blue Devils. Discounted tickets can also be purchased at NUSPORTS.com with the code PURPLE through Friday, Sept.16.

The ETHS football game that weekend will be a home game against Barrington High School on Lazier Field at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff for the varsity game is 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16.

The 'Kits, 'Cats and Kids Block Party is sponsored by the City of Evanston, Northwestern University, Downtown Evanston, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, Evanston Township High School, and Evanston/Skokie School District 65.

Additional information is available on the city's website.
