Located in the Galvin Recital Hall.

Described by the Chicago Reader as “dazzling,” the Fonema Consort commissions, performs, and promotes new music that explores the possibilities of the human voice. Fascinated by pieces that foster a rich interplay of voices and instruments, the consort aims to close the gap between music making and drama. The ensemble is highly committed to bringing works by Latin American composers to US audiences and encouraging cultural exchange between the regions. Fonema has collaborated closely with such composers as Julio Estrada, James Dillon, and Lewis Nielson. The group’s program features works composed by Bienen School students.
