The League of Women Voters will hold candidate forums for the 18th Legislative District and 13th Cook County District races on Sunday, Jan. 10, at Evanston Township High School.
The one-hour forum for 13th Cook County District Commissioner Larry Suffredin and Democratic challenger John Michael Keefe starts at 2 p.m.
The 90-minute forum for the five Democratic candidates for the 18th Legislative District starts at 3:30 p.m. The candidates are Robyn Gabel, Eamon Kelly, Patrick Keenan-Devlin, Edmund Moran, and Jeff Smith.
“What many people don’t realize is that the Feb. 2 primary election is the deciding election to fill the seat of State Representative Julie Hamos. There are no Green or Republican candidates for this office.” said Karen Hunt, president, League of Women Voters of Evanston.
“The Democratic candidate receiving the greatest number of votes is the winner, regardless of the percentage lead. It is important that everyone take the time now to learn about the candidates, and of course, to vote.”
The public will be able to submit written questions for the candidates at the forum. The forums will be taped, and will be broadcast at various times up to election day by both ETHS (channel 18) and the Evanston Community Media Center (channel 16).
Entrance for the forums will be at the main West entrance behind the building at 1600 Dodge Ave. The parking lot, directly off of the entrance, can be accessed from both Church and Lake Streets. The forums will be held in the Bacon cafeteria. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.
The sponsors of the forums are the Leagues of Women Voters of Evanston, Glencoe, Glenview, Wilmette, and Winnetka/Northfield/Kenilworth. The Evanston/Skokie (District 65/202) PTA Council is co-sponsor of the 18th Legislative District forum.
