EISMA (Evanston In-School Music Association) will present a free Community Concert performed by the seven-piece Mexican folkloric ensemble Son Monarcas on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 12, at 4 p.m. at the Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.

For over 45 years the Evanston In-School Music Association, EISMA, has been reaching the 8,000+ school children of Evanston twice a year, enhancing their appreciation of cultural diversity through exceptional live world music performances in each elementary and middle school. In a new partnership with the Evanston Public Library, EISMA is expanding its reach to invite parents, younger and older siblings, and seniors to attend a free public concert. On Sunday afternoon, November 12 at 4:00 PM, the Mexican folkloric music and dance ensemble Son Monarcas will perform for the whole community and all are welcome to attend the performance at the Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington.

EISMA’s mission is to enrich children’s global perspective, stimulate creativity, provide cultural and historical contexts, and strengthen community through the presentation of professional live music performances twice annually at all the elementary and middle schools of Evanston/Skokie District 65 and also at Pope John XXIII and St. Athanasius Schools.  Reaching over 8,500 children every fall and spring, EISMA concerts within their own community, expand their knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of music, and encourage participation in vocal and instrumental programs. EISMA has been awarded grants from the Evanston Community Foundation and from the Evanston Arts Council for this community concert and more to follow in the spring.  More information about EISMA is available at EISMAconcerts.org.
