Free Workshop: Composting is HOT!

Edible Evanston's Mikaylo Kelly and Ken Kastman will provide advice and detailed information to help you build an effective compost pile. Turn your kitchen scraps and yard waste into valuable soil and nutirents for your garden.
If your current compost pile need a little TLC or you're Wondering if vermiculture is for you or you are confused about cold versus hot composting, you'll get answers. And if you have never composted a thing and want to get started, this workshop is also for you!
Topics to be discussed:
- How to build a compost pile that heats up for perfect thermophyllic composting.
- Composting with worms (vermiculture)
- Cold composting
- Different compost enclosures, from bins to straw bales, from home-made to store bought.
After a classroom portion, we'll head to the orchard and community gardens across the street for some hands-on composting. See a day-old pile that's cooking hot and take part in building a new pile. Examine the variety of compost enclosures in the gardens.
