Grand opening at arts center

The Evanston Art Center will hold a grand opening celebration at its new headquarters at 1717 Central St. from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 19.

The free event will provide information about expanded arts programming and new classes offered at the new location.

There'll be workshops, artist demonstrations and light refreshments during the event.

Classes offered include ceramics, painting, printmaking, drawing, jewelry, mosaics, new media, 3D printing and figure sculpture.

There will also be an Ikebana, Japanese flower arranging demonstration as well as a drone flight and racing demonstration as part of the Center’s new Maker’s Lab. There will be a student art sale to showcase EAC student’s work.

The event will also showcase the new space’s current art exhibit, Hybrid’s Paradise.  Curated by Sergio Gomez, this exhibit reflects on the current state of an interconnected, fast-evolving society and celebrates the Evanston Art Center’s new multi-disciplinary space and includes a variety pieces from Chicago based artists.

Dancers from Evanston’s own Enidsmithdance will perform site specific contemporary dance among Gomez’s curated work.
