Evanston's Haven Middle School Varsity Girls Cross Country Team took first place at the IESA sectional cross country meet Saturday at Arlington Heights South Middle School defeating 14 other schools from across the region.
The Haven girls team now return, for a second year in a row, to the State IESA cross country meet on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Maxwell Park in Normal to compete for state honors against 25 other qualifying schools.
Haven team mebers includeThe girls varsity team members include 8th graders Gabrielle Horton, Eavan Norman, Samantha Steman and Margaret Halverson. 7th graders Isabelle Basso and Ashley Ruder and 6th graders Lauren Dain, Tate Lucas and Catherine Lynch.
Haven offers a co-ed, no-cut, running club for any 6th, 7th or 8th graders. The team is composed of 55 middle school kids who compete in nine races in September and October and practice mornings before school.
They are coached by Louis Jones and Marie Lynch.
This marks the second year that the Haven Cross Country Club has competed in the state cross country series. It also marks the second back to back championship for the girls varsity team.
