The Evanston History Center will open the doors of its National Landmark Charles Gates Dawes House for a Holiday Open House on from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6.
The free event features live music, holiday treats, crafts for kids and the opportunity to explore the lakeside mansion at 225 Greenwood Ave. decked out for the holidays.
The history center is also conducting a holiday food drive in partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Food collected in the EHC drive will go to an Evanston food pantry to benefit area residents.
Donations of nutritious, non-perishable food (no glass, please) will be accepted at the Dawes House, 225 Greenwood St., from Thursday, Dec. 3, through Sunday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.
Holiday Open House Schedule:
1 to 2:30 p.m.: Piano Music by Chris Mathieu in the Dawes Library
2:30 to 3:30 p.m.: Music and sing-along with Marian McNair in the Great Hall
1 to 4 p.m.: Exhibits open and house open for self-guided tours. Docents will be stationed throughout the house to answer questions.
