Local artist brings serene views to library

A new art exhibition is on display in the recently renovated second floor of the Evanston Public Library, as a part of the Local Art @ EPL series.

The exhibition entitled [TERRA SERENA] displays large-scale acrylic paintings by Evanston resident Collin R. McCanna opens today and will remain on exhibit through Aug. 1

McCanna has exhibited work at Brothers K Coffeehouse, BLICK Art Materials, and Other Brother Coffeehouse.

He is a graduate of Lawrence University and Northwestern University and has studied abroad at the American University of Rome, Italy, with commissioned works featured in Washington, D.C. and Wisconsin.

He volunteers at The Art Institute of Chicago and is affiliated with the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Contemporary Art – Chicago, and The History Museum at The Castle in Appleton, Wisconsin.

“This body of work simplifies landscapes to its purest form. My hope is that viewers will experience a bit of calm and serenity amidst their busy lives. The Evanston Public Library is one of my favorite spots in town, and I’m honored to be able to showcase my work here.”
