The McGaw YMCA welcomed four new board members during its 132nd Annual Meeting, held on July 12.
“We are all excited by the breadth of experience these new members bring to the board,” said McGaw YMCA Board Chair Pat Maunsell. “It is very important that we select board members who not only provide the skills we need, but also mirror the Evanston community in a host of ways and are passionate about McGaw’s mission, vision, and need to serve the community equitably and inclusively.”
The new board members are:
- Theresa Collins, a lifelong Evanstonian who teaches in and chairs the Upper School Department of English at The Francis W. Parker School in Chicago. Collins has served on the Camp Echo Advisory committee for several years, and has worked with the YMCA’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Global subcommittee.
- Angela Edwards-Campbell, the Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Kellogg School of Management. As director, she has led institution-wide strategy to create a more diverse and inclusive organization and experience for students, faculty, staff and stakeholders.
- Ismalis Nunez, the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator at D65 and a trainer for Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity (SEED), a K–12 diversity training program. Ismalis also serves as the co-chair for Evanston’s Cradle to Career Family Engagement and on the Board of Directors for Evanston Scholars.
- Brian Scott, the new chief of the Evanston Fire Department. A 17-year veteran of the department, Scott began his career as a firefighter/paramedic. He has a Masters of Science degree in public safety administration from Lewis University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University.
The board leadership for the 2017-18 fiscal year was announced as well, and includes:
Chair: Patricia Maunsell, Partner at M2 Communications
Vice Chair: Sean Reynolds, Vice President for Information Technology at Northwestern University
Treasurer: Chad Luning, President of Grumman-Butkus
Secretary: Vilma Bell, Retired Vice President of Human Resources at S&C Electric Company
The meeting also recognized Matt Walsh and Michael Walker, who both retired from the board after serving eight years. Michael Walker served on numerous committees involving McGaw Y finances, and also served as Treasurer. Matt Walsh has been integral to ensuring that Camp Echo and other programs expand their reach into the community while maintaining excellence.
“Michael and Matt are truly part of the foundation of the McGaw YMCA. They have given tremendously of their time, talent and treasure, and we cannot thank them enough,” Maunsell said.
