‘My Black is Beautiful’ event for girls

The Evanston North Shore Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host "My Black is Beautiful: Discovering Your Brilliance from the Inside Out" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, at the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University.

The event, which is geared for girls ages 11 to 18, is in its third year and will feature interactive discussions and activities that are aimed to be both insightful and inspiring. Those interested in attending the free event are encouraged to pre-register online.

Facilitators for this year will cover topics on executive presence, self-acceptance, debunking Hollywood beauty myths, bullying and healthy lifestyles. Event coordinator Rayvin Julien says, "We want all girls to come out, be inspired, connect with others and discover and embrace their greatness.”

ENSA anticipates at least 100 young women in attendance for this year’s summit. A light lunch and goodie bags will be provided for all attendees. Special prizes will also be given out during the summit.
