Ogorod Productions, one of Chicago’s new production companies, has announced the cast and production team for its first production, THE FANTASTICKS.
With book & lyrics by Tom Jones, and music by Harvey Schmidt, this local production is directed by Brigitte Ditmars with a cast that includes Will Herndon (Matt), Jessica Surprenant (Luisa), Bailey Richardson (Hucklebee), Travis Monroe Neese (Bellomy), Noel Taylor (El Gallo), Brian McKnight (Henry), Lane Halverson (Mortimer), and Anna Backer (the Mute).
THE FANTASTICKS, the longest-running musical ever written, seems on the surface to be a simple coming-of-age love story. Deeper down, however, its themes are deception versus truth, infatuation versus love, and the hard lesson that we must suffer before we can grow. Serious subjects! And yet the show is filled with laughter and songs that, like the text, appear simple while disguising deep sophistication. Ogorod, whose name—appropriately for this show—is taken from the Russian word for “vegetable garden,” is proud to make its debut with this most beloved of musicals.
The production team for THE FANTASTICKS also includes Kingsley Day (music direction), Evan Frank (scenic design), Cat Wilson (lighting design), Gary Nocco (costume design), and Devon Green (properties design).
THE FANTASTICKS will run for two weekends: Friday, June 22 – Sunday, June 24 and Friday, June 29 – Sunday, July 1 (2018). Friday performances are at 7:30 PM; Sunday matinees are at 3:00 PM. Tickets are $35 general admission; $25 for seniors; $15 for students. All performances will take place at the Piven Studio Theatre at 927 Noyes St, Evanston, IL.
