Evanston’s American Legion Post 42 will host a Homemade Pasta Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 2, to raise travel expenses for disabled veterans competing this summer at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games.

For a $10 donation — $12 at the door – guests at Post 42’s meeting hall, located next to the CTA Purple Line at 1030 Central Street, will enjoy pasta “al dente” with meatballs and sauce, plus salad, garlic bread, soft drinks and coffee.

Kids under 6 eat free and an expanded raffle features donated prizes ranging from a season pass at Canal Shores Community Golf Course to Bears/Packers tickets.

Proceeds help send the “Lovell Legends” team of wheelchair-bound veterans, including many getting care at North Chicago’s Lovell VA Hospital, to the 35th annual Wheelchair Games to be held June 21 to 26 in Dallas, Texas.

Co-sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs and the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Games include archery, basketball, bowling, field events, slalom, softball, swimming, table tennis, track, trapshooting and weightlifting.  Athletes compete against others with similar athletic ability, competitive experience or age.

Can't go? Send a contribution or buy a raffle ticket ($5 ea., 6/$25) via American Legion Post 42, Box 42, Evanston, IL 60204.  More info? Call Post 42 at 847-475-9076.
