On August 1, the Cook County Board of Review will begin accepting property tax assessment appeals Aug. 1 from property owners in Evanston.
Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin, Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael Cabonargi, City of Evanston Tax Specialist Mitzi Gibbs and Evanston Alderman Robin Rue Simmons and Cicely Fleming will host two workshops to discuss how to appeal assessments.
One will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Evanston Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.
The other will be on Thursday, Aug. 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the McCormick Auditorium at the Northwestern University Norris Center, 1999 Campus Drive.
“As the last tax bills showed, it is vitally important that you appeal your property tax assessment to ensure that you are paying only your fair share of any increase,” Commissioner Suffredin said. “The best way to keep your property taxes low is to appeal your assessment annually to both the Assessor and the Board of Review.”
Homeowners in the 13th District of Cook County can also visit the Cook County Board of Review at the Skokie Courthouse, 5600 W. Old Orchard Road, Room #155 in Skokie. The Board of Review’s office in Skokie can be reached at 847-470-7522. The Board of Review is also accepting appeals online.
