Ribbon-cutting ceremony at Ecology Center

Community members are invited to attend a ribbon cutting to celebrate the Evanston Ecology Center’s new classroom extension on Tuesday, July 19, 7 p.m., at the Ecology Center, located at 2024 McCormick Blvd.

Refreshments will be served and the public can enjoy tours of the room and visit the Center’s resident critters.

Thanks in part to an Evanston Environmental Association donation of $43,000 to complete funding for the project, the city broke ground on construction of the former greenhouse in August of 2015. The project transformed the greenhouse into an accessible extension of the classroom, allowing room for new educational displays and open space for families to enjoy.

The new space features a tree exhibit that will highlight Illinois native habitats and wildlife. Ecology Center staff has worked to expand and update the enclosures of the critters that call the Ecology Center home as well as expand the educational programming opportunities offered in the space.
