Rummage sale benefits church’s local mission projects

First United Methodist Church holds a giant rummage sale at the church, 516 Church St. in Evanston from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The church held its first annual rummage sale over 75 years ago to benefit children's programs.

This year's sale items includes many like-new baby clothes, a full set of Haviland fine china, several bicycles, a bedroom set, Legos, and Halloween and Christmas stuff as wekk as clothing for all ages and genders, books and music, house and kitchen wares, treasures, linens, art, electrical/lamps and tools.

A snack bar and free bag check are available, and there will be a "$2/bag sale" during the last hour in many departments.

Beneficiaries of proceeds include YOU, Inc., the church's diaper pantry Bundled Blessings, Interfaith Action of Evanston, Hemenway Soup at Six, and others.
