Coaching sessions start next week to prepare Evanston teens for the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program Job Fair next month.

More than 40 employers offering summer and year-round jobs are expected to attend the job fair from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, at Evanston Township High School.

They include Six Flags Great America, which will have transportation options available; Hyatt House Chicago/Evanston, McGaw YMCA, Salvation Army-Evanston, YoFresh Yogurt Cafe, Office Depot, Northwestern University and the City of Evanston.

Young people from 14 to 18 years of age who live in the City of Evanston and are enrolled in school are eligible to participate in the job fair.

They're encouraged to fill out a program application in advance to expedite the process at the job fair. Applications are available online and at outreach sessions from 5 to 7 p.m. at:

  • Chandler-Newberger Center, 1028 Central St., on Monday, Feb. 22.
  • Robert Crown Center, 1701 Main St., on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
  • Evanston Library Loft, 1703 Orrington Ave., on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
  • Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave., on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
  • Fleetwood-Jourdain Center, 1655 Foster St., on Thursday, Feb. 25.
  • CAMS Branch Library, 900 Chicago Ave., on Friday, Feb. 26.

Applications will also be available at all ETHS cafeterias during lunch periods 4 to 6 from Monday, Feb. 22, through Friday, Feb. 26.

17- and 18-year-olds are especially encouraged to attend the job fair, as many opportunities exist for both summer and year-round employment.

Students can increase their chances of being hired and get an opportunity to jump the line at the job fair by attending a Pre-Fair Resume & Interview Skills Workshop, sponsored by the Youth Job Center.

Workshops will be held on Wednesdays, March 2 and 9, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., at ETHS's Boltwood (West) Cafeteria. Workshop registration is available online.

Last year more than 600 young people attended the job fair and more than 550 obtained summer or year-round jobs.

Businesses interested in supporting or attending this year’s job fair can contact Program Coordinator Porschia Davis at 847-448-8049 or youth@cityofevanston.org.
