Virag Jewelers marks 80th anniversary

When Peter Virag established his jewelry store in Evanston in 1936, he probably never envisioned the computer-aided design system recently added to the store.

Virag’s grandchildren are still providing jewelry and watch repair, using many of the same tools from the early days. But they've brought the store into the 21st century by providing computer-aided custom jewelry design.

The cutting-edge 3D design software allows the customer to create new jewelry or transform old pieces into something brand new. The customer has creative control to customize every detail of the jewelry from stone size, shape, and color to extensive design changes. A special engagement ring design, just envisioned by the customer, can now be recreated and produced with this new software.

“We are really excited about offering this service to our customers,” said current owner Peter Virag, the founder's grandson. “This program allows them to design one-of-a-kind pieces, rather than picking out available mountings. They can make an appointment with one of our designers and are under no obligation to purchase the piece until they approve the final design.”

Customers can email [email protected], or call 847-864-9660 to make an appointment to use the computer-aided design service.

Virag Jewelers, at 703 Main St., also has an extensive line of fine jewelry, diamonds, watches and clocks for sale.  Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
