Evanston health officials reported eight new COVID-19 cases among city residents today.

Statewide there were 6,130 new cases. That’s the second highest one day total of the pandemic, topped only by the 6,161 cases recorded on Saturday.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker today added Lake and McHenry counties to the list of regions required to stop having indoor bar and restaurant service and restricting the size of indoor gatherings to 25 rather than 50 people.

Similar restrictions, triggered by rising COVID case rates, were announced Monday and went into effect this morning in suburban Cook County. They’ll take effect in Chicago Friday morning and in Lake and McHenry counties on Saturday morning.

The seven-day positive test rate in suburban Cook County is now at 7.5%, up from 6.3% a week ago.

Evanston’s seven-day positive rate is now 2.5%, up from 2.2% a week ago.

The seven-day positive rate statewide is now 6.7%, up from 5.7% a week ago.

The IDPH reported results of 72,705 tests today, up slightly from Tuesday’s 72,139.

The state agency reported tests of 401 Evanston residents today, compared to 394 on Monday. It found six positive cases.

The state now says Evanston has had a total of 1,410 cases.

The city now says Evanston has had a total of 1,421 cases. The city’s death toll from the pandemic remained unchanged today at 74.

Here are the latest seven-day positive rates for some other communities:

  • Chicago 7.1%, up from 6.2% a week ago.
  • Skokie 4.2%, down from 4.5% a week ago.
  • Wilmette 3.0%, down from 3.9% a week ago.

Chicago reported 999 new cases today for a total of 98,040. Its coronavirus death toll increased by six today to 3,058.

Suburban Cook County reported 1,277 more cases today for a total of 83,068 and five more deaths for a total of 2,392.

Those who died in Cook County today included one youth under the age of 20, three men in their 60s, one women and one man in their 70s, a women and two men in their 80s and two woman in their 90s.

The state now has 389,095 COVID-19 cases, and it reported 57 more deaths today for a total of 9,619.

As of last night, 2,861 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 600 patients were in the ICU and 243 of those were on ventilators.
