As a nod to the recent hot weather, the cooking demonstration at Saturday’s downtown farmers market in Evanston will feature salads that require no cooking.

The featured chef is Nell Funk of Now We’re Cookin’. She will be preparing samples of two salads for tasting at the Friends of Evanston Farmers Markets tent in the southwest corner of the market, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

One dish is a Morroccan Raw Carrot Salad. The other is Asian Quick Pickled Vegetables. Copies of the recipes will be available as handouts.

Purpose of the demonstrations is to give people some ideas for meals they can prepare from items sold at the market, located adjacent to the city’s Maple Avenue parking garage, where validated parking is free to market patrons.
