No DPOE endorsement in house race

The Democratic Party of Evanston failed to reach consensus Sunday on an endorsement for the state house district that covers most of Evanston.

The results for the 258 DPOE members voting for an 18th District endorsement were:

The results for the 258 DPOE members voting for an 18th District endorsement were:

  • Patrick Keenan-Devlin, 119 votes, 46 percent of the total.
  • Jeff Smith, 57 votes, 22 percent.
  • Eamon Kelly, 47 votes, 18 percent.
  • Robyn Gabel, 33 votes, 13 percent.
  • Edmund Moran, 1 vote, 0 percent.
  • No endorsement, 1 vote, 0 percent.

Under party rules, to win endorsement in a race with three or more candidates, a candidate must be the first choice of at least half the party members voting and also be ranked above the "no endorsement" option on two-thirds of the ballots.

The group did make the following endorsements:

  • Pat Quinn for governor .
  • David Hoffman for U.S. senator.
  • Toni Preckwinkle for Cook County board president
  • Larry Suffredin for 13th District Cook County commissioner.

The endorsement meeting was held Sunday afternoon at the Levy Center.
