Even though Tuesday, Nov. 11, is a national holiday, designated to honor war veterans, garbage collections in Evanston will proceed as normal.

The only holidays left from now until Jan. 2 for refuse collection are Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day.

Veterans will not go unremembered, however, as there will be a Veterans Day ceremony Tuesday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Fountain Square on Davis Street between Orrington and Sherman avenues, including some singing and remarks from leaders of local veterans groups.

There will be no mail deliveries, however, on Tuesday, and most banks will be closed. Public schools will be on holiday as well, as will most Cook County offices.
