All Purple Line trains through Evanston will end their runs at Howard Street this week, and riders will need to transfer to the Red Line to get to the Loop.

As announced last month, the service suspension is needed to do reconstruction work on the Wells Street bridge over the Chicago River, which will be closed to train traffic for the week.

CTA officials say the construction work is expected to lead to more crowded trains and longer travel times, especially at rush hour.

More information on the closure, and possible alternative routes, is available online.
