Northwestern University’s Nobel prize winning economics professor, Dale Mortensen, received a collateral honor at Monday night’s City Council meeting — a key to the city presented by Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl.

“What door does this open?” Mortensen joked, and then said that as a 45-year resident of Evanston he appreciated his neighbors’ acclamation.

“What door does this open?” Mortensen joked, and then said that as a 45-year resident of Evanston he appreciated his neighbors’ acclamation.

And with that the mayor invited everyone in the room to share what she called the largest cake ever seen at the Civic Center, topped with a replica in icing of the Nobel prize medal.
