Nominations are being sought for the Mayor’s Award for the Arts and the Evanston Arts Council’s Leadership Award.

Every year, the Mayor’s Award for the Arts is presented to one individual and one arts organization in recognition of their contributions to the Evanston community through the demonstration of excellence in the arts. Recipients are selected from nominations submitted by the public.

Nominations also are being sought for the sixth annual Evanston Arts Council’s Arts & Business Committee Leadership Award. The public is encouraged to nominate a business that has supported the arts, or an individual representing a business who provided support with the direct backing and involvement of the business.

Nomination forms for both awards are available online and at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St.. Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11. The awards will be presented at the annual State of the City Address and Mayor’s Award for the Arts Luncheon, scheduled for March 8.

Last year, Young Evanston Artists (YEA!) received the arts organization award and two people were selected to win the individual award: Dr. Stamata Blanas and Jill Brazel. Last year, the Leadership Award was presented to Hecky’s Barbecue.

The Arts & Business Committee consists of local arts organizations and business leaders who joined together to increase the awareness and support of the arts in Evanston and to use the arts to bring more business into the city.

For more information about either award, please call the City of Evanston’s Cultural Arts Division at 847-448-8260.
