The Evanston Preservation Commission is seeking nominations for its 2020 Preservation & Design Awards, a program aimed at recognizing property owners, architects, contractors and local organizations for their contribution to maintaining and enhancing the architectural, historical and cultural heritage of the city.

Nominations are due by Friday, April 3, at 5 p.m. 

Award categories include: Sensitive Addition/Alteration, Adaptive Use, Appropriate New Construction, Proper Rehabilitation/Restoration, Innovative Solutions in Preservation, Sustainability and Resilience, Life Achievement/Preservationist of the Year, and the Margery B. Perkins Award. 

Award recipients will be selected by a jury of experienced individuals in the fields of preservation, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning and architectural history.

Eligible projects must have been completed within the last five years. With the exception of publicly owned buildings, buildings open to the public and exceptional interior restoration in private buildings, only exterior projects are eligible for consideration. This program is open to all projects and is not limited to historic preservation. 

Nomination forms are available online. Completed submissions can be emailed to cruis@cityofevanston.org or mailed to Evanston Preservation & Design Awards, c/o Carlos D. Ruiz, Senior Planner/Preservation Coordinator, Community Development Department, Planning & Zoning Division, 2100 Ridge Ave., Room 3201, Evanston, IL 60201.

Submissions must include before and after digital photos of the nominated project. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the deadline may be extended if necessary.
