Northwestern University held onto its 12th place ranking among national universities for the fifth straight year in the annual evaluations U.S. News published today.

Meanwhile, the only other Illinois school on the list, the University of Chicago, moved up one notch into a 4th place tie with Columbia University.

In the list Harvard and Princeton were tied for number one, followed by Yale at number 3.

Other schools finishing ahead of Northwestern were MIT, Stanford, Duke, Penn, CalTech, and Dartmouth.

Northwestern continued to lag a bit on the “best value” schools list, coming in at 23rd. US News says that list takes into account a school’s academic quality and the net cost of attendance for a student who receives the average level of need-based financial aid.
