Northwestern University’s endowment has recovered nearly half the losses it suffered during the recent market downturn.

The Daily Northwestern quotes University President Morton Schapiro as saying the endowment’s value now stands at about $6 billion, up from $5 billion last year, but still substantially below its peak of $7.2 billion.

“The NU numbers are really quite impressive compared to its peer group,” Schapiro said. “We’re all going up together.”
