Northwestern University officials say they expect to see an increase in the number of minority students in next fall’s freshman class.
Associate Provoste Michael Mills told the Daily Northwestern that, based on enrollment deposits so far, the school expects the entering class to include 9 percent Hispanic students, up from 7 percent last year, and 7 percent African-American, compared to 6 percent last year.
Of the 2,100 students expected to enroll, about 250 will be from low income families and qualify for Pell Grants and another 150 will be Pledge Scholars, who receive grants instead of loans.
