Northwestern University football player Xavier Washington reportedly has been suspended from the team after being arrested early Sunday on drug charges.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says that about 3:30 a.m. Sunday officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 1900 block of Foster Street.

He says when they got there, officers learned that Washington, a participant in the disturbance, had left on foot, and they located him two blocks away, near Simpson Street and Brown Avenue.

Dugan says the officers found 0.5 grams of suspect cocaine on Washington’s person.

He was transported to the Evanston police department and charged with felony unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Washington, who lives at 1605 Ridge Ave., appeared in all 13 games for the Wildcats last season and started in eight.

The 6-foot-1-inch Washington is a sophomore from Cedar Hill, Texas.
