There’ll be more than just a game Saturday, when kids from the Evanston Baseball and Softball Association turn out for a Northwestern Wildcat baseball game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rocky Miller Field.
While the Wildcats play Michigan in their last home stand of the season, NU Athletics will announce an expanded partnership with the EBSA.
In addition to EBSA Days at NU baseball and softball games each year, Northwestern players and coaches will attend EBSA games and events and hold coaching clinics for EBSA’s volunteer coaches.
Additionally, Northwestern Athletics has become a “Leadership Sponsor” of EBSA sponsoring the Rookie League of 5-6 year olds and providing additional support for the entire League.
EBSA Co-president Bill Blanchard says, “EBSA is wild over its new partnership with Northwestern Athletics. This partnership is a natural fit between two groups that care deeply about providing opportunities to Evanston ‘s youth. We hope that this relationship will grow over time and allow EBSA’s players to develop their skills and to gain more exposure to the high level of athletics and coaching that exists with the student-athletes at NU.”
For EBSA Day, all EBSA players in their uniforms get in free and will be invited on to the field after the game to meet players, get autographs, play catch and run the bases.
The Evanston Baseball and Softball Association is entirely volunteer run and is Evanston’s oldest sports organization, providing baseball and softball opportunities to over 1,600 children each year regardless of their ability to pay.
