Northwestern University police say a female NU student was robbed Wednesday evening in the 900 block of Foster Street while walking to her residence.

Police say the robber approached the woman from behind about 7:45 p.m. near the Foster Street CTA station, grabbed for her purse, and, after a brief struggle, ran off with it.

Police say the victim screamed, attracting the attention of people in the area who saw the robber behind a building searching through the purse. They told him to drop the purse, which the robber did before fleeing the area.

After recovering the purse, the student told police nothing had been taken from it. NU and Evanston police searched the area but were unable to locate the robber. The victim suffered minor injuries but refused medical attention.

The suspect was described as a male white between 18-22 years old, 6 feet tall, thin build with short hair and possibly balding. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark long pants.

Persons with information about the incident are being asked to contact the Evanston Police Department at 847-866-5000.
