Karen Olson, age 83, a former Evanston resident, died on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Olson, who lived in the unincorporated community of Irma in Lincoln County, Wisconsin, had been under the care of Ministry Home Hospice.
Olson was born in Evanston on Feb. 17, 1937, to Andrew and Rose (Jackel) Swanson.
She was married to Axel Leonard Olson on Feb. 13, 1960, in Evanston at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They moved to Des Plaines in 1967 where Karen worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier along with other challenging jobs.
Together, they moved to Tomahawk, Wisconsin, in 1993 to keep the family homestead. There, she was a school bus driver for many years and also served as the Town of Skanawan chairperson.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk, where she had many special and loving friendships. She served on the church council and was a choir director. She also was an avid gardener.
Olson is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Jenny) Olson of Irma; her sister, Nancy Friel of Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, who died in 2015, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
The memorial service for Karen Olson will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at Krueger Family Funeral Home in Tomahawk. Pastor Susan Christian will officiate. Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
