Evanston police say five people were shot about 7:15 p.m. Sunday at the Mobil gas station in the 1900 block of Green Bay Road, and one of the victims has died.

Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew says the other victims have been transported to area hospitals by Evanston Fire Department ambulances.

Four of the victims were found at the gas station, Glew says, while the fifth was located a few doors away at 1918 Asbury Ave.

Glew says no suspects are in custody, but the initial investigation does not indicate any further danger to the public.

Update 10 p.m.: Evanston police say the person who died is a man whose age hasn’t been determined. The injured are all described as teenagers — two males and two females — ranging from 14 to 18 years old.

Update 10:15 p.m.: Sunday’s shooting brings Evanston’s homicide count for 2021 to six. That’s the highest number for a year in more than two decades. The city has averaged between two and three homicides a year during that period.

Update 11:50 a.m. 11/29/21: The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has identified the person who died at 17-year-old Karl Dennison. Evanston police say they’re still trying to determine whether he was an Evanston resident.
