Update 10:05 p.m.: An 18-year-old man who friends said was an Evanston Township High School graduate was shot in the back and killed in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood this afternoon.

The man, identified by police as 18-year-old Alante Vallejo of the 200 block of Ridge Avenue, was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that a second man, 20 years old, believed to have been involved in the incident, later walked into Evanston Hospital with a gunshot wound to the foot. He was listed in good condition.

Evanston police searched unsuccesfully after the shooting for a man who some witnesses say appeared to be bleeding as he ran away from the scene near 1937 W. Howard, on the Chicago side of the street.

Various witnesses disagreed about whether they saw the man police were searching for carrying — or not carrying a gun — and about whether he was bleeding.

He reportedly ran north from Howard on Callan and then west into the alley north of Howard.

The shooting occurred about 1:45 p.m.

Friends told the Chicago Tribune Vallejo had graduated from ETHS less than a week ago.
