One person has been transported to Evanston Hospital and police still have traffic blocked on Emerson Street after an incident about 5:45 this afternoon in the 1800 block of Grey Avenue.

Police have provided few details about the incident so far but they reportedly were looking for a white van that fled westbound from Grey through the alley south of Emerson after the incident and were holding onto a bicycle that also apparently was involved.

Police say traffic is backed up on Emerson from Asbury Avenue to McCormick Boulevard while the investigation into the incident continues.

Update 8:54 p.m.: Traffic now is flowing freely on Emerson. No update from police on the nature of the incident.

Update 1:20 p.m. 6/7/19: Police spokesman Perry Polinski says says a 38-year-old Evanston man was stabbed in the upper body and is now listed in stable condition.

Polinski says preliminary indications are that the victim may have been acquainted with his attacker, but detectives haven’t been able to interview the victim yet because of his injuries.
