Evanston health officials reported one new COVID-19 case among city residents today while across Illinois another 1,541 people were diagnosed with the disease.

The state’s positive test rate rose to 3.8% today and the seven-day average edged up to 3.7%

Evanston now has a total of 853 COVID-19 cases. The city’s death toll from the coronavirus has held steady at 71 for more than two weeks.

Chicago reported 355 new cases today for a total of 59,135. Its death toll was adjusted downward by one today to a total of 2,747.

Suburban Cook County reported 273 additional cases today bringing its total to 43,448 and two additional deaths for a total of 2,083.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported results of 38,151 more tests for the disease today, including 274 tests of Evanston residents.

Only one Evanstonian had a positve result today in the IDPH tests, for a positive rate here of 0.4%. The positive test today came from the north Evanston 60201 ZIP Code.
