Evanston health officials said one more city resident was diagnosed with COVID-19 today. Across Illinois the positive test rate declined.

Evanston’s case count now stands at 991 and the COVID-19 death toll here remained unchanged today at 72.

Statewide there were 1,668 new cases for a total of 235,023. With results of 47,379 tests reported statewide the positive rate for the day was 3.5%, compared to a seven-day average of 4.1%

Chicago reported 301 more cases today for a total of 71,285 and two more deaths for a total of 2,877.

Suburban Cook County had 273 new cases for a total of 55,292 and two more deaths for a total of 2,181.

Adding three deaths elsewhere in the state, the statewide death toll now stands at 8,026.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported six of the seven deaths were of people at least 70 years of age.

The IDPH reported test results for 137 Evanston residents with six positive cases for a positive rate of 4.4%, but it was just catching up with cases reported by the city on Sunday.
