Evanston health officials reported one new COVID-19 case today, the third day in a row with just one new case among city residents. But statewide another 1,680 people fell victim to the disease.

With 40,859 tests reported across the state, the statewide positive rate fell from 4.5% Monday to 4.1% today, matching the seven-day average.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported test results for 214 Evanston residents but reduced the number of positive test results listed by one, presumably because one or more people previously identified as Evanston residents turned out to not actually live here.

Evanston’s case count now stands at 968 and the death toll among city residents remained unchanged at 71.

Chicago reported 244 more cases today for a total of 69,266 and two more deaths for a total of 2,857.

Suburban Cook County reported 302 more cases for a total of 53,157 and five more deaths for a total of 2,165.
