Evanston health officials reported just one additional COVID-19 case today for the second day in a row. But statewide tests reported today dropped substantially, as they had done early last week.
Evanston’s coronavirus case count now stands at 967 and the death toll here remained unchanged at 71.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported test results for 215 Evanston residents today and said there were two positive cases, one more than the city reported. The state count indicates a positive test rate here of 0.9%
Statewide the positive test rate today was 4.5% based on 1,612 new cases identified from 36,155 tests conducted. That compares to a seven-day average positive rate of 4.2%
Chicago reported 300 new cases today for a total of 69,022 and one more death for a total of 2,855.
Suburban Cook County had 269 new cases for a total of 52,855 and one more death for a total of 2,160.
The fatalities in the county were both men, one in his 60s, the other in his 80s.
Across the state 1,529 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, including 334 in the ICU and 141 on ventilators.
Statewide the case count now stands at 221,790. The statewide death toll rose by eight today to 7,888.
