One resident of a two-unit home at 1719 Lyons St. in Evanston was displaced by a fire overnight.
Fire Division Chief Dwight Hohl says firefighters called to the two-story frame building shortly after 9 p.m. found heavy smoke coming from the front door and called for extra units to respond.
Hohl says the fire had started in the kitchen on the first floor and that crews were able to extinguish the fire within about an hour.
He says the Red Cross will be helping the first floor resident find new living quarters, but that two residents of an upstairs unit were able to return to their apartment.
No injuries were reported. The Evanston Fire Prevention Bureau will be investigating the cause of the fire.
