With temperatures not expected to get above 10 degrees today and to dip down to five degrees overnight, Interfaith Action plans to open an overnight emergency shelter in Evanston tonight.

The shelter site will be at First Congregational Church, 1445 Hinman Ave. Doors open for guests at 9 p.m., with no entry after 10 p.m. The shelter will close at 7 a.m.

This is the second year for an expanded Interfaith Action emergency shelter program that rotates the shelter site among several Evanston churches during the course of the winter season.

The shelter is scheduled to be open whenever the temperature falls to 15 degrees or lower. Weather forecasts indicate the overnight low temperature may be well below that for the next several days.

There’s no snow in the forecast for today, but we could get less than an inch on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
